Zero McKenna Celtic FC Talks as Bellamy Pledges to Welsh National Team
Ipswich's manager and Craig Bellamy have been connected with the Scottish champions manager position
The Championship club's Kieran McKenna states he has had "zero conversations" with the Glasgow club about their managerial vacancy, while Welsh national team manager Craig Bellamy is committed to seeing out his team's World Cup campaign.
Both are being considered with the manager's job at the Scottish champions following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on the start of the week.
McKenna's Position on The Scottish Club
The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.
The mid-thirties took charge of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in England's second tier.
"I have not had any of those discussions," the London-born ex- Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list.
"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is currently.
"I have a unique job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."
Context and Agreement Details
It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.
"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about those. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."
McKenna signed a new four-year contract in last year and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.
"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!
"I approach this job like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always do my best as while I am here."
The Welsh Coach's Situation
The former striker represented the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to finish the ongoing World Cup campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.
The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed Macedonia.
Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of reaching that stage, thanks to a productive Nations League performance, should they not end up Group J second place.
Considering his current stance, Bellamy, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
