This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
