Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with performances so bad.”

He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
