Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
