Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police issued surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
