Fans Call for Arrest of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who breached a barricade and touched the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the well-known stage show Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, securing a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
