Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
